COACHING AND MENTORSHIP TO TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES

The New Mexico Tourism Department announced yesterday it is partnering with the Small Business Development Center to provide business coaching and mentorship to tourism and hospitality businesses for immediate and sustainable support. Tourism businesses will have access to five business advisors who will be readily available to help explore both immediate and long-term solutions to the challenges they are facing during the COVID-19 crisis. These advisors will help business owners navigate financial aid options for their business, identify specialized training solutions and adjust to shifts in regulatory and competitive environments for long-term success.

Businesses are encouraged to submit inquiries and requests for support through an online form. A tourism business consultant from the SBDC will be responding directly to inquiries shortly after submission. More information and link to the on-line form can be found at newmexico.gov

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR SELF-EMPLOYED AND GIG WORKERS

For self-employed and gig workers who have been waiting to apply for unemployment benefits, the sign-up process may open soon. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports today that the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions expects to announce by the end of the week when a new website will be ready to take unemployment claims from self-employed people, contractors and gig workers who are out of work during the COVID-19-related shutdown.

The announcement will detail which workers qualify for benefits under the federal CARES Act.  More information will be available at jobs.state.nm.us

2020 CENSUS

Did you know that census data helps communities respond to natural disasters and secure funding for hospitals and fire departments?

If you haven’t responded to the 2020 Census yet, now is the time. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community, no matter the size, no matter the location.

Here in Grant County, Only 31.6% of you have responded to date as compared to 50% back in 2010. Our community needs you to get counted.

The easiest way to get counted is to go online to 2020census.gov and fill out the on-line questionnaire. It takes about 10 minutes.

You can also fill out your paper questionnaire that you should have received in the mail.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all public locations for census taking are closed.

So if you do not have access to the internet or have not received a paper questionnaire, you can call the 2020 Census Assistance line at 1-844-330-2020.

Additionally, Priscilla Lucero of the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments has offered to help walk anyone through the form. You can reach her at 575-388-1509.

Again, to date only 31.6% of Grant County residents have responded, so please get counted today! That’s 2020census.gov
