As of Today – Friday, June 5 – 8,353 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 383 deaths,  170 currently  hospitalized individuals, and  3115 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Grant County has 15 positive cases.

In total, 217,757 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 1,869 having been conducted in Grant County.

For a full breakdown of COVID-19 cases by county and demographic information, visit the state’s COVID-19 data dashboard at: cvprovider.nmhealth.org/public-dashboard

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately (1-855-600-3453).

As a reminder, the state’s extended public health order that took effect on Monday still requires that face coverings must be worn in public settings; Mass gatherings and congregations are still unsafe and prohibited and New Mexicans are still urged to stay home, especially if sick or in a high-risk group, and to maintain a 6-foot physical distance from others if you must go out.

Department of Health Issues Alert for Increased Risk of Heat Stress through the Weekend

The New Mexico Department of Health encourages everyone statewide to be mindful of heat-related illness and know the signs to look out for yourself and others as temperatures in most of the state have risen above 90 degrees, and southern New Mexico counties are experiencing extreme heat.

In Grant County, it is anticipated that high temperatures in the upper 80’s to 90’s will persist throughout the weekend. Outdoor recreation and outdoor activities should not be done during the typical hottest times of the day, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Further, NMDOH urges New Mexicans to never leave children, pets or anyone in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

During this period of extreme heat, people should stay inside places with evaporative cooling (swamp coolers) or central air conditioning to cool off and should drink plenty of plain water. Local entities and community organizations should consider deploying their plans and systems as needed for ensuring people in their community have access to drinking water and checking on those who are home-bound (including those in self-isolation and quarantine) and the elderly.
