As of Today – Monday , June 8 – 8,940 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 396 deaths,  177 currently  hospitalized individuals, and  3,307 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health. 

Grant County has 15 positive cases. 

In total, 234,375 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 1,951 having been conducted in Grant County.

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately (1-855-600-3453).

As a reminder, the state’s extended public health order that took effect on June 1 still requires that face coverings must be worn in public settings; Mass gatherings and congregations are still unsafe and prohibited and New Mexicans are still urged to stay home, especially if sick or in a high-risk group, and to maintain a 6-foot physical distance from others if you must go out.

NEW DOH GATING CRITERIA WEBSITE

Human Services Secretary Dr. David Scrase announced on Friday a new COVID-19 gating criteria website.  Because the COVID-19 pandemic is a long-term event that requires careful, evidence-based decision making and policy planning to save lives and promote economic recovery, the State has developed public health gating criteria that are part of New Mexico’s phased plan for a safe and gradual reopening of the economy and society. Gating criteria are thresholds New Mexico must satisfy before beginning to relax social distancing restrictions and closures.

The criteria are assessed regularly and if the levels meet predetermined, evidence-based targets, the State will assess the ability to move to the next phase. Gating criteria, in conjunction with the COVID Safe Practices Guide for Individuals and Employers, developed by the NM Economic Recovery Council, are designed to promote safety of community members, employees, and customers.

The gating criteria consist of six measures each with an assigned target. In evaluating reopening, officials will consider the State’s ability to achieve a decreasing transmission rate, adequate testing, expansive contact tracing and isolation, and sufficient hospital capacity.  

Currently, the state meets 5 of the 6 gating criteria. However, New Mexico falls short on contact tracing and isolation capacity. It is taking 50 hours to isolate the person who tested positive and quarantine the people who they may have exposed. The gating criterion sets a target of 36 hours or less.

Virtual Town Hall – Resources for Reopening New Mexico Businesses

The New Mexico Departments of Economic Development, Workforce Solutions, and Environment, as well as the New Mexico Small Business Development Center have partnered to offer a series of Virtual Discussions for New Mexico Employers. The discussions are aimed at assisting businesses as they seek to reopen in compliance with Executive Health Orders.

The first of this series will take place today from 2 – 3pm and will specifically address the needs of businesses with a high-level of customer engagement such as retail, sales, food service, lodging, etc.

New supplemental SNAP increases also being issued in June

New Mexico households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will again receive the maximum amount for their household size for the month of June, the New Mexico Human Services Department announced on Friday.

In March, April and May, SNAP households that were not already receiving the maximum SNAP benefit amount for their household size received an increase to their benefits to bring them to the maximum amount. These increases were made to prevent food insecurity for New Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The June supplemental will be available to SNAP recipients on their regular issuance date, for those individuals whose regular issuance date is June 1-7, they will receive their benefits on June 8.

Individuals seeking to apply for SNAP benefits may apply online through www.yes.state.nm.us or by phone at 1-800-283-4465.

FOOD PANTRY SCHEDULES

St. Francis Associates for the Needy at The Newman Center will hold its weekly Food Pantry on today at 4pm. Cash assistance for rent, utilities, bus passes and prescription drugs is also provided. The food pantry is located at 914 W. 13th St. Silver City. Call 388-4933 for more information.

The Food Pantry at the Gospel Mission in Silver City is open Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-1:30pm. They are located at 111 South Texas Street in Silver City. Call 388-5071 for more information.

SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANCE

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday announced additional resources for New Mexico families interested in summer youth programming. Through a collaboration between the Department of Cultural Affairs, Public Education Department, Early Childhood Education and Care Department, and Children, Youth & Families Department, the state has assembled a comprehensive array of supports for families – including a directory of available programs, online and print resources, child care resources and other materials. 

These resources are available on http://www.newmexico.gov/summer-youth-programs/, along with a full list of COVID-19 Safe Practices for in-person programs.
