Silver City: A Natural History of Place

Earth Matters co-producer and Gila Resources Information Project executive director Allyson Siwik talks to Town of Silver City Community Development Director, Peter Russell.

Peter and Allyson have been working on a project on the natural history of Silver City that compiles ideas, data, stories, maps, photos and other information on the natural and cultural history of our town.  We asked the questions: What did Silver City look like when indigenous peoples lived in the area and before Hispanic and Anglo settlement? What are the factors that shaped the present day landscape of Silver City? How will climate change influence our environment and in turn the plant, animal and human communities in our corner of New Mexico? Today’s program focuses on the role of water in shaping our landscape and human settlement patterns, how climate change may impact our area, and how we can adapt to these environmental forces.
