For those that attended, a wonderful time was had by all at the Webb Theater.  David Vidal & Bugs Salcido were both knockouts as you have a great start with great songs and both songwriters have plenty of those.  Add great guitar skills, expressive singing and wrap it up with in a big ball of passion.  Voila!

Many thanks to the Ann Marie Elder and Karyn Neil of WNMU Expressive Arts department for the venue and their assistance in organizing the event during the “off season.”  And special thanks to Joe Doyle for wrestling chairs, setting up lights, mixing sound, running home for a guitar stand and generally making it happen each step of the way.

While the turnout was not as high as we’d hoped, a splendid time was had by all and maybe… just maybe… we’ll have them back for a return engagement soon.  Stay tuned!

In the meantime, here are a couple of clips featuring Bugs and David.

Enjoy!

And once again, thanks to our event sponsors,

SC Food Coop, Syzygy Tileworks, Jill Steidl, Desert Woman Botanicals and Simon Ortiz Insurance.

David is a New Mexico native but now resides outside of Los Angeles.  He has a checkered past and criss-crosses the country playing in house concerts, clubs, coffee houses, galleries and concert halls.  He has four critically acclaimed solo albums and mines the deep veins of roots music and Americana.  Tasty finger picking, nasty slide and the occasional vicious thrash are part of his palette and his moody, comical and incisive lyrics top it off.

Bugs is a longtime resident of Las Cruces in between jaunts across the country and around the world working in the studio and performing with the likes of Sheryl Crow, The Rembrandts, Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Los Lobos, Bon Jovi, Counting Crows, Don Smith and hundreds of other less celebrated but soulful artists. You might be thinking, “I’ve heard that name somewhere…” and it might well have been in this feature article in Desert Exposure.
