As of Today – Tuesday, May 12 – 5,069 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 208 deaths, 207 hospitalized individuals, and 1300 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Grant County currently has 15 positive cases.

In total, 106,721 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 960 having been conducted in Grant County.

COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE FOR ALL WORKERS IN NEW MEXICO

The New Mexico Department of Health announced this morning that COVID-19 testing is available for all workers in the state. This includes: all government employees (state, county, municipal, federal, etc.), utility and construction workers, grocery and pharmacy employees, retail and wholesale, anyone in food service or other service industries, and any New Mexican at work who would like access to a test, symptomatic or not.

All testing is FREE OF CHARGE to anyone, and anyone can get tested, whether they have insurance or not. Please remember to bring your insurance card with you when you get tested and to limit two people per vehicle to avoid unnecessary risk for viral spread.

Because the Department of Health knows COVID-19 infected people without symptoms can unknowingly transmit the virus, more testing is necessary to know where cases are occurring for early identification and isolation, thus further preventing ongoing spread.

OPERATIONAL TOOLKIT FOR BUSINESSES CONSIDERING REOPENING OR EXPANDING OPERATIONS IN COVID-19

Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security released an Operational Toolkit for Businesses Considering Reopening or Expanding Operations in COVID-19

As state and local governments plan for the gradual reopening of businesses, individual businesses should start planning for how they will restart or expand their operations so that modification and mitigation measures will already be in place when work can resume.

The operational toolkit allows business leaders to work through a 4-stage process to obtain an overall risk score for their business and to identify considerations for reducing both operational and individual level risks posed by COVID-19. This toolkit is intended t o provide businesses with a starting point in their planning to reopen or expand their operations by identifying their risk levels for contributing to the spread of COVID-19 and providing them with a list of mitigation measures to implement that will increase the safety of their employees , clients, customers, and community.

WEDNESDAY IS LAST DAY TO REQUEST DIRECT DEPOSIT FOR FEDERAL STIMULUS CHECK

On Friday, the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service urged people to use the Get My Payment portal by noon Wednesday, May 13, to enter their direct deposit information in order to receive their stimulus check more quickly rather than wait for a paper check (press release). The IRS said that after noon on Wednesday, the IRS will begin preparing millions of paper checks that will begin arriving through late May and into June.

GILA WILD AND SCENIC RIVER LEGISLATION INTRODUCED AS “RAY OF HOPE” DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC 

Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced this morning introduction of the M.H. “Dutch” Salmon Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to protect segments of the Gila and San Francisco rivers as Wild and Scenic. They explained that moving forward on the Wild and Scenic bill is a “ray of hope” and a “chance to look forward” in this time of the coronavirus pandemic. (press release)
