today1 March 2016

On this week’s edition of Earth Matters, Nathan Newcomer, Gila Grassroots Organizer with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance talks with Jason Amaro, the New Mexico Sportsmen Conservation Coordinator with Trout Unlimited; Gerry Engle, with the Gila Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen, and Chris Schlabach, co-owner of Gila Hike & Bike, a local outdoor business located in downtown Silver City.

They discuss the importance of public lands, like our Gila National Forest and its Wilderness Areas; how these public lands are valued by various aspects of the community, and also current efforts by anti-government fringe groups aimed at getting rid of, or transferring our public lands to the states in which they’re located.
