CVU / Coronavirus Update – July 1, 2020


As of Today – Wednesday, July 1 – 12,147 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 497 deaths, 127 currently hospitalized individuals, and 5393 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Since last week Grant County has reported an additional case with 18 total cases of COVID-19 with 15 recovered.

In total, 344,181 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 3,178 having been conducted in Grant County.

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately at 1-855-600-3453).

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will hold her weekly press conference today and will give an update on New Mexico’s COVID19 efforts and the state’s public health emergency order.

LOCAL COVID-19 TESTING

Local testing schedules and procedures for COVID-19 have been updated.

Grant County Public Health Office will provide free testing every Monday from 8:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. for utility workers and Food Industry Workers and for everyone on Tuesdays from 8:30a.m. to 11:30a.m.

Appointments are required and must be scheduled by registering on the following website:
cvtestreg.nmhealth.org Once registered, you will receive a code. Please save this code
and contact the Grant County Public Health Office at 575-538-5318 (ext. 4) to make your appointment.

Testing is free, but those who have insurance should bring their card with them.
Throat swab and nasal swab testing options are available.

The Grant County Public Health Office is located at 2610 N. Silver Street (across the street from the Swimming Pool).

CVS Pharmacy Drive-thru in Silver City is making Self-swab tests available to individuals meeting CDC criteria, in addition to state and age guidelines. Patients must register in advance at CVS.com

Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) in Silver City is doing testing on weekdays except for Tuesday at their clinic at 1007 Pope Street in Silver City and on weekdays except Thursdays at their Lordsburg clinic at 530 De Moss Street in Lordsburg. Call 1-888-271-3596 for an appointment. Testing is expanded to everyone via a drive-up testing approach.

HMS has also recently acquired a mobile COVID testing clinic. The Mobile Clinic will be positioned in front of the Gila Valley Baptist Church in Gila from 9 -3 pm tomorrow July 2. This is a walk-in clinic so no appointment is necessary. For more information, call HMS at 888-271-3596.

Additional rural areas will be serviced over the coming weeks.

Gila Regional Medical Center is no longer conducting COVID-19 testing, given increased capacity at other local facilities.

TOWN OF SILVER CITY CLOSES PARKS FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Under Authority of the town of Silver City Municipal code, Chapter 2, Section 2-198(14) and Section 2-200(Emergency Powers), the Town Manager in consultation with the Mayor has Ordered that all Town-owned property within the boundaries of the Town shall be closed to public entrance and use commencing July 3, 2020 at 12:00 PM and terminating July 5, 2020 at 11:59 PM . Town-owned property includes, but is not limited to, all parks, parking lots and public buildings. This restriction of entry and use shall not apply to public rights-of-way, designated trails and open spaces, golf course, and ball fields at Scott Park. Further, this Order does not apply to law enforcement and public employees in conduct of their lawful duties. (press release)

NEW SUPPLEMENTAL SNAP INCREASES BEING ISSUED IN JULY

New Mexico households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will again receive the maximum amount for their household size for the month of July, the New Mexico Human Services Department announced today. (press release)

During the past four months, SNAP households that were not already receiving the maximum SNAP benefit amount for their household size received an increase to their benefits to bring them to the maximum amount. These increases were made to help ease circumstances for New Mexicans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SNAP households will automatically receive the additional allotment in the same way they receive their current benefits. The July supplemental will be available to SNAP recipients on their regular issuance date.

Individuals seeking to apply for SNAP benefits may apply online through www.yes.state.nm.us or by phone at 1-800-283-4465.

PNM OFFERS HELPING HAND TUESDAYS

Through the PNM Helping Hand Tuesdays initiative, low-income customers who are facing an unexpected financial hardship can receive assistance with their electricity bills. Call 505-967-8045 from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, through July 7, for up to $150 to be applied toward their PNM bill. Customers must provide digital copies of documentation to establish income qualifications.

NMDWS ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL EXTENDED BENEFITS FOR UNEMPLOYMENT

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions announced that New Mexico will begin offering the Federal-State Extended Benefits program for those who have exhausted their previous unemployment benefits. The program offers up to an additional 13 weeks of benefits to individuals who have exhausted both their regular unemployment benefits and 13 weeks of the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) assistance. A reminder to all claimants that the additional $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation will be ending July 25, 2020.

The first group of claimants exhausting their PEUC benefits started this past Sunday after they certify. The written notification they receive from NMDWS specifies they can apply over the phone by calling the UI Operations Center at 1-877-664-6984, or online by clicking on the “Apply for Extended Benefits” link located on their claimant homepage.

FOOD PANTRY SCHEDULE

The Commons will be holding its food pantry for Silver City, Tyrone & Arenas Valley residents on Saturday from 10 am until noon at 501 E. 13th Street in Silver City (Just off Swan Street behind the Knights of Columbus) Visit www.tvcgrantcounty.org for more information.

The Food Pantry at the Gospel Mission located at 111 South Texas Street in Silver City is open for drive thru only on Wednesdays 8:30 am – 9:30 am. Daily soup kitchen: 8:30-9:30 for breakfast Mon-Fri and 12-1 pm lunch every day.

St. Francis Newman Center Food Pantry located at 914 W. 13th St. Silver City is open every Monday at 4 pm and cash assistance for rent, utilities, bus passes and prescription drugs is also provided. Call 575-388-4933 for more information.
