1,345 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 31 deaths, 87 hospitalized individuals, and 304 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health

Grant County currently has 10 positive cases of coronavirus.

The Department of Health reports that given the infectious nature of the virus it is likely other residents are infected but yet to be tested or confirmed positive. To that end, all New Mexicans have been instructed to stay home except for outings absolutely necessary for health, safety and welfare. These additional restrictions have been enacted to aggressively minimize person-to-person contact and ensure spread is mitigated.

For more information, go to cv.nmhealth.org

As a reminder — New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, are advised to call their health care provider or the COVID-19 hotline immediately at 1-855-600-3453

In a letter to New Mexicans, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham explained that her administration will not be able to lift the stay-at-home order until we “see the [COVID-19] crisis through until it’s genuinely safe to reopen. And while we can’t pinpoint an exact date, and while my administration is actively working on a plan for how that might take place and what it might look like, our public health experts have offered some guidelines. We have to continue using physical distancing to slow the spread, test as widely as possible, isolate people who have tested positive and give our health care system time to stand up resources and facilities to contain COVID-19 over the long term. And of course, we must support efforts to find a vaccine.”

Thanks to increased statewide testing capacity, the following people may now be considered for COVID-19 testing:

  • Asymptomatic people who are close contacts or household members of New Mexico residents who have already tested positive for the coronavirus;
  • Asymptomatic residents in nursing homes;
  • Asymptomatic people in congregant settings such as homeless shelters, group homes, detention centers;
  • Symptomatic people displaying the COVID-19 symptoms of cough, fever or shortness of breath.

To date, 31,970 COVID-19 tests have been performed in New Mexico.

In Grant County COVID-19 testing is conducted at several locations…..

Gila Regional Medical Center is accepting outpatient appointments on Monday, Wednesday and Friday ONLY from 8:00am to 4:00pm for persons with new onset of fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, body aches or other flu-like symptoms or if you believe you have been exposed to COVID 19. Call 575-388-4103 for an appointment.

Silver Health Care – Please call the hotline at (575) 956-1320 to register for testing. Testing is to be conducted at the doctor’s discretio n.

Hidalgo Medical Services – Is offering screening and testing for established patients only. Call (575) 388-1511 for an appointment.

The NM Department of Health conducts COVID-19 testing on Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the Grant County Public health Office in Silver City. Call 575.5 38.5318 ext. 4 for more information. The New Mexico Department of Health is also offering testing at their offices in Lordsburg and Deming. For more information you can go to cvprovider.nmhealth.org/directory.html

Are you experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19? The state of New Mexico and private companies have taken measures to mitigate financial hardship. The state is diligently working to identify additional sources of relief and to advocate for a full measure of federal support. To find out what assistance programs are available to you and how to apply, visit newmexico.gov/i-need-assistance. You can also call the Coronavirus Information Hotline at 1-833-551-0518.

2020 CENSUS

Hey Grant County– If you haven’t responded to the 2020 Census yet, now is the time.
Only 28% of you have responded to date as compared to 50% back in 2010. As you know, the U.S. Census happens once every decade and counts everyone in the U.S. An accurate census is critical because the data is used to determine the distribution of federal dollars and political representation for the next ten years. Grant County receives money through federal programs which benefit the community from health care, to nutrition, to education, to housing, to jobs, and more.

Our community needs you to get counted.

The easiest way to get counted is to go online to 2020census.gov and fill out the on-line questionnaire. It takes about 10 minutes.

You can also fill out your paper questionnaire that you should have received in the mail.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all public locations for census taking are closed.

So if you do not have access to the internet or have not received a paper questionnaire, you can call the 2020 Census Assistance line at 1-844-330-2020.

Additionally, Priscilla Lucero of the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments has offered to help walk anyone through the form. You can reach her at 575-388-1509.

Again, to date only 28% of Grant County residents have responded, so please get counted today!
