As of Today – Thursday, June 4 – 8,140 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 375 deaths,  1416  hospitalized individuals, and  3013 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health. 

Grant County has 15 positive cases. 

In total, 212,996 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 1,740 having been conducted in Grant County.

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately (1-855-600-3453).

As a reminder, the state’s extended public health order that took effect on Monday still requires that face coverings must be worn in public settings; Mass gatherings and congregations are still unsafe and prohibited and New Mexicans are still urged to stay home, especially if sick or in a high-risk group, and to maintain a 6-foot physical distance from others if you must go out.

NM DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WEEKLY COVID-19 MODELING REPORT

The NM Department of Health has released its weekly COVID-19 modeling report. COVID-19 prevalence, or the proportion of NM residents that have COVID-19, continues to increase across all regions of the state. New Mexico has the 23rd highest prevalence in the U.S.

Native Americans have the highest burden of disease except in the southeast. Percentages of total new cases each week have decreased in the Metro and northwest region, and increased in the southwest region.  Hospitalization rates minimally increased across all regions except the northwest. Mortality rates are highest in the northwest region followed by the Metro Region.

Rate of transmission for the state has continued to decrease. The southeast region of the state now has the highest rate of transmission at 1.13, meaning one person with COVID-19 infects 1.13 other people. The goal is to decrease the rate of transmission to 1 to 1.1.

FREE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON FRIDAY

Guadalupe Montessori School and the Silver City Watershed Keepers have partnered on an educational project this summer to provide ways to learn about water quality and watershed health while practicing social distancing. The first in a series of packets, all about observing weather and measuring precipitation, will be available to be picked up in a drive-through at the Guadalupe Montessori School between 10:30-11:30  tomorrow June 5th. The packets include a rain gauge, a weather journal, and a series of activities about the water cycle and water conservation. The activities in the packet can be done independently by older elementary children, and by younger children with help from an older sibling or parent! THE COMMONS FOOD PANTRY ON SATURDAY

The Commons will hold its next Food Pantry for  Silver City, Tyrone & Arenas Valley residents on Saturday, June 6 from 10 am until noon at 501 E. 13th Street in Silver City (Just off Swan Street behind the Knights of Columbus)
