As of Today – Monday, May 4- 3,850 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 151 deaths, 164 hospitalized individuals, and 832 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Grant County reported an additional case of COVID 19 over the weekend, and now has 15 positive cases of coronavirus.

In total, 77,977 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, and 558 have been conducted in Grant County.

For a full breakdown of COVID-19 cases by county and demographic information, visit the state’s COVID-19 data dashboard at: cvprovider.nmhealth.org/public-dashboard

A reminder that Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham extended the modified stay-at-home order through May 15 as the COVID-19 pandemic remains a grave risk to residents of all ages and in all communities across New Mexico.

New Mexicans should remain at home except for outings essential to health, safety and welfare. The amended order similarly maintains that gatherings of more than five individuals are prohibited. Restaurants and dine-in outlets may provide only curbside and delivery service, as before. Grocers and other essential retail services must continue to operate at only 20 percent of their maximum capacity as determined by fire code.

The order allows for partial re-openings for business operations deemed non-essential to health, safety and welfare.

The state Economic Recovery Council, a group formed to advise the governor on the recovery of New Mexico’s economy in the wake of the unprecedented public health emergency caused by COVID-19, voted unanimously to endorse the preliminary plan for reopening the New Mexico economy, starting with the preparation phase that began on Friday.

GRANT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE COVID-19 TESTING CLINIC TOMORROW

The Grant County Public Health Office COVID-19 Testing Clinic will take place tomorrow from 8:30 am – 11:30 am at 2610 N. Silver in Silver City. A reminder that due to increased testing capacity in New Mexico, all essential workers can be tested for the coronavirus. Call for an appointment at 575-538-5318 ext. 4.

NEW HOTLINE FOR QUESTIONS ON HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE

New Mexicans with questions about health insurance coverage related to COVID-19 now have a call center for quick answers.

The Office of the Superintendent of Insurance launched the toll-free call center on Friday. It will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Consumers are urged to call the center at 1-833-415-0566 to learn about their right to have COVID-19 testing and treatment without cost and with questions about:

  • How to obtain health insurance coverage
  • How to resolve grievances associated with premium payments, termination of coverage, claims, benefits denials, and surprise billing related to COVID-19
  • How to appeal an insurance decision

Again, that number for questions about health insurance coverage during COVID-19 is 1-833-415-0566.

PHASED REOPENING OF STATE PARKS

On Friday, the State Parks Division announced that eight State Parks will begin to reopen for day-use only beginning May 1st. Overnight use and campgrounds remain closed and all events through the end of May have been canceled. In addition, there will be capacity limits at many re-opened State Parks.

The first parks open for day-use on May 1st are: Cimarron Canyon, Ute Lake, Brantley Lake, Sumner Lake, Caballo Lake, Cerrillos Hills, Storrie Lake, and Villanueva. Remaining State Parks will be opened in future phases.

Day-use fees will be waived to decrease person-to-person interaction through May 15th. Visitors with overnight camping reservations through May 15th will be issued a refund. The phased reopening considers availability of park staff and resources, characteristics of the park, and the ability to social distance once in the park. The public is encouraged to visit parks near their homes to reduce traveling for the protection of local communities.

TOWN OF SILVER CITY REOPENS PARKS ON A MODIFIED BASIS

Beginning today, May 1, 2020, the State of New Mexico is under an extended, yet modified, Public Health Order. This extension and modification is current through May 15, 2020.

Under this current Public Health Order the Scott Park Golf Course is open for golf only – no dine in or retail service.

Town of Silver City will be opening up its parks on a modified basis. This excludes facilities, such as restrooms and water fountains, as well as playground equipment. This is due to the fact that proper cleaning and sanitation of facilities and equipment cannot be accomplished properly between uses.

Therefore Penny Park will remain closed, in its entirety, at this time.

Please remember that social distancing is important when outside enjoying the parks and that gatherings or more than five individuals are prohibited under the current public health order.

For more information, visit townofsilvercity.org
