today21 January 2020

Earth Matters co-producer and Gila Resources Information Project Executive Director, Allyson Siwik, talks to U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich about several environmental and conservation issues in southwest New Mexico and with Brittany Fallon, Conservation and Legislative organizer with the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club, about the 30-day legislative session that begins on January 21, 2020.
Elected in 2012, Sen. Heinrich serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Energy among other committee assignments. Sen Heinrich has been a champion for New Mexico’s public lands, the Gila Wilderness and Gila River, and for growing the clean energy economy.

Although it’s a short session and the focus will be mostly on budget issues, there are a number of priority bills that environmental advocates will be working on. Brittany fills us in on a slate of renewable energy, wildlife and budget bills and this year’s Environment-Climate Crisis Day scheduled for January 28, 2020.
