Earth Matters co-producer Allyson Siwik is joined by Dr David Gutzler, Professor of Meteorology and Climatology in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of NM.

Conducted every 4 years, the National Climate Assessment was released last month and provides a summary of the current and future impacts of climate change on the US.  Bottom line is that “the evidence of human-induced climate change continues to strengthen and that impacts are increasing across the country.”  Climate change is happening now and it’s due to human-induced emissions from burning fossil fuels.

Dr Gutzler earned degrees from the University of California at Berkeley (B.S., Engineering Physics) and MIT (PhD, Meteorology); he held research positions in private industry and the Federal government before joining the UNM faculty in 1995.  He served as a lead author for the chapter on detection and attribution of observed climate change for the assessment report of the United Nations’ IPCC – Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which was released in September 2013.
