This week, Jean will talk with Carolyn Smith who gardens in a greenhouse, says it’s the easiest way to grow food in the Southwest and will tell us all about getting started. Before arriving in Silver City, she homesteaded for two years in Scotland and ten years in Vermont, and worked as a landscape gardener for three years in Mill Valley, CA. Taking a sabbatical now from her position as Outreach Coordinator at the Silver City Food Coop, she is devoting more of her time to expanding her gardening activities.
Back To The Garden is GMCR’s newest weekly program and our very first to be webcast live each week. Listen in on conversations with local gardeners about their specialties – from flowers and herbs to heirlooms, native plants, water harvesting, pruning, and so much more – as well as what’s going on in the garden this week, with tips on managing things well.
Jean is a UPI-award-winning radio feature reporter in her first-ever live interview show – devoted to supporting chronic and continuing gardeners, beginning gardeners, and others who’d like to make their lives work more harmoniously with nature. A self-proclaimed “gardening student,” Jean is a passive solar designer, certified Permaculture designer, and solar cooking advocate, specializing in the creation of harmonious relationships between home, yard, garden, sun, wind, water and more.
Enjoy!
Back To The Garden will broadcast live every
