We have so much to look forward to in 2023, including our first fundraiser of the year taking place on Saturday, February 11th. This year, we are going back to our open-house format and hope you find the time to come by and say hi!
While we are at it, let’s take some time to reflect on the past year.
Some of our notable achievements include (in absolutely NO particular order):
Being the recipients of the 30 Something Grant: A $30,000 grant that will be used to improve infrastructure both at the antenna and down here at the studio
Another successful season of Music at the Silver City Farmers Market, with a big thank you to Nan Franzblau for her coordination efforts, a shout out to all of the volunteers that worked the table, and to all of the musicians that added to the ambiance of the Farmers Market – and to Leah Villareal, the Farmers Market Manager
GMCR/KURU participated in Give Grandly 2022 by conducting interviews with over 50 nonprofits that were participating in the event. These interviews aired on GMCR/KURU during the Give Grandly 2022 event this past March
Numerous successful on-air fundraisers that helped to grow our membership base
A variety of new shows including Caravan with Caroyln Smith, Peep Show with St. Ranger, Silver Vinyl with Joseph Kennedy, Random Radio with Rod Stasick, One Foot in the Grave with The King of the Road
Our intern from Aldo Leopold High School, Nathan, completed his first semester and is back for the Spring Semester. He has been helping with audio editing, recording underwriting, programming, hosting, and more than can be listed in an email
The introduction of a new archiving service provided by Pacifica at archive.gmcr.org
This January saw the return of the “Breaking Up Christmas Dance” and silent auction, hosted by the Big Ditch Crickets with a big thank you to Jeanie McLerie and Ken Keppeler, which saw over $2,300 in donations
The continuation of many shows that have had a home on GMCR/KURU for a long time including Ramblin’ Radio Revival with Nan Franzblau; Mitchellaneous with Mitch Hellman; Local Flavor with Raul Turrieta, George Carr, and Ken Keppeler; Roots and Branches with Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie; Social, Aid, and Pleasure Society with Paula Geisler; Jazz From the Gila with John Tank and George Carr
The continuation of shows that have began after the pandemic including the Kindred Continuum Series which features the shows Interconnect with Kristen Lundgren, Poetry Bread with Howie Richie, New Earth Kids with Carol Ann Fugagli and Nan Franzblau, Tilantongo with Phil and Kathy Dahl-Berdine with help from Jamie Newton, and every 5th Monday with Alicia Edwards; Tower of Song with Jim McIntosh; Inspiration Station with Diamond Dave; The Blue Show with Joe Neri; Community Spotlight with Candice Burke; Mr. Peabody’s Music Machine with Sam Costello; Friendly Fire: A Voice for Veterans with Don Kimball; and the Silver City Community Theater Radio Hour with Wendy Spurgeon and the Silver City Community Theater; Afternoon Tunes with Nicki on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Jessica Zubaida on Wednesdays.
