As of Today – Monday, April 20 – 1,845  people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with  55 deaths, 103 hospitalized individuals, and 487 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

Grant County currently has 13 positive cases of coronavirus. 37,042 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state.

Due to a technical lapse, reporting results from some labs to the state Department of Health were delayed yesterday. As a result, the data reflects only a partial total. The delayed results will be included in the state’s reporting today or as soon as they are received and lab-confirmed. The Department of Health is  continuing to actively investigate cases that are reported to the state throughout the day.

As a reminder — New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, are advised to call their health care provider or the COVID-19 hotline immediately at 1-855-600-3453

New Mexicans who have non-health-related questions or concerns can also call 833-551-0518 or visit newmexico.gov, which is being updated regularly as a one-stop source for information for families, workers and others affected by and seeking more information about COVID-19.

A REMINDER THAT SILVER SCHOOLS HAS CHANGED THEIR LEARNING PACKET DISTRIBUTION TIMES

Silver Consolidated School District is creating two distribution times for parents and students to pick up learning packets as part of the district’s Continuous Learning Plan in response to school closures.

Because of increased numbers of requests for paper packets, the District is offering a drive thru pickup in the rear parking lot of the Silver Schools Board Office at 2810 North Swan Street on tomorrow — Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

Grades 1-8 will be available from 4:30PM – 6:00PM with Grades 9-12 distributed from 6:30PM – 8:00PM.

Signs will be posted directing drivers to the correct pick up location and those who are picking up for multiple students can drive thru any line and an individual will assist in the distribution of all materials for your student(s).

This will be the final distribution for the rest of the school year with no other mass distributions scheduled.

For Cliff Families:  Please contact the administration as they are coordinating efforts with families to assist in a variety of activities.

For more information, visit silverschools.org or the Silver Schools Facebook page.

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION #HEALTHYATHOME RECOMMENDATIONS

The COVID-19 pandemic means that many of us are staying at home and sitting down more than we usually do. This can have a negative effect on your physical and mental health. The World Health Organization recommends all healthy adults do at least 30 minutes a day of physical activity and children at least 60 minutes per day.

Remember – Just taking a short break from sitting, by doing 3-4 minutes of light intensity physical movement, such as walking or stretching, will help ease your muscles and improve blood circulation and muscle activity.

Regular physical activity benefits both the body and mind. It can reduce high blood pressure, help manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers – all conditions that can increase susceptibility to COVID-19.

It also improves bone and muscle strength and increases balance, flexibility and fitness. For older people, activities that improve balance help to prevent falls and injuries.

Regular physical activity can help give our days a routine and be a way to stay in contact with family and friends. It’s also good for our mental health – reducing the risk of depression, cognitive decline and delay the onset of dementia – and improve overall feelings.

For more information on how to stay healthy at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit the World Health Organization at who.int
