Welcome to “Earth Matters” here on Gila-Mimbres Community Radio KURU 89.1 FM Silver CitIn September, The Gila Conservation Coalition organized the 17th Annual Gila River Festival that explored our connection to Nature, how the environment shapes human identity, and celebrated our connection to one another and to the Gila River watershed.

On this episode of Earth Matters, we’re bringing to you the Sonnie Sussillo Memorial Gila River Festival Keynote Address that honored the dedicated Gila River Festival volunteer Sonnie Sussillo who passed away in March 2021 while hiking in the Gila that she loved so much. The first annual memorial keynote was presented by philosopher and author Kathleen Dean Moore. The title of her talk was The Work of Loving the World.

Thanks to the NM Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities for their generous support of the Gila River Festival and this keynote presentation.

Susan Beck, President of the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning, served as moderator for the talk. Listen below
