Greg’s songwriting has been lauded by many, not least of whom are Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter – all distinguished artists and writers in their own rights who have recorded his songs. His creativity has resulted in more than a dozen of his own albums, including his 1986 release, Songs of Innocence and of Experience.

Greg’s musical abilities should come as no surprise as he comes from a musical family. His mother – a Silver City resident – played electric guitar, his grandfather played banjo, and his father was a Holy Roller preacher in the Hacklebarney section of Iowa, where the Gospel and music are a way of life. Brown’s first professional singing job came at age 18 in New York City, running the hoots at the legendary Gerdes Folk City.

Brown’s latest album, Freak Flag, recorded in 2011, hit a respectable 34 on Billboard Magazine’s Top Heatseekers Chart. Music critic, Mark Deming, of Allmusic wrote, “these songs find him very much in his element, marrying sly but heartfelt vocals to slinky melodies that split the difference between folky simplicity and bluesy grit”.

Be There!
