This week’s Back to the Garden show #24 is an interview with Doug Smith, owner of Townside Farm, just north of Silver City, actually just 2 miles from downtown. It is an organic-method operation, with vegetables, a large, all-solar greenhouse, fruit trees and berry hedges! Doug and the farm welcome volunteers – which my partner and I were for part of last summer, one morning a week, where we had a wonderful time! And the farm is about to undergo some big, positive changes, as Doug takes off to get his Permaculture Design Certification in April and returns to implement water-saving and natural shade-producing design changes! He also shares his favorite plant varieties.
