GMCR and KURU are proud to announce our latest live DJ to join the ranks - the great tenor saxophonist John Tank now brings you Jazz from the Gila every Thursday night from 6:15 or thereabouts to 8pm.
John has long been based in New York but lucky for us has spent more time lately in our little neck of the woods. He continues to tour the US, Canada, England and the continent and has performed live on BBC Radio, the French National Radio, CBC Radio Canada and Dutch television in the Netherlands.
His pedigree is extensive and includes tenures with the great Charles Mingus on the recordings Me, Myself And Eye and Something Like A Bird as well as stints with Sam Rivers, Paul Jeffery, George Coleman, Joe Morello, John Blair, Jack Walrath, Calvin Hill, and many others. Some of his stylistic influences are Paul Desmond, Lester Young, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon and Zoot Sims.
As you can see, he’s a true Jazz Man from the old school and we welcome him to the station and the community. His website is johntank.com (http://johntank NULL.com)
