Welcome to The Radio Report hosted by Frances Trotta. Frances continues her conversation with Kyle Johnson – Secretary / Treasurer of GMCR – as they discuss the financial requirements and fundraising activities of GMCR over its development and currently as they near the startup of FM Broadcast.

The community response has been highly encouraging as GMCR approaches its deadline of December 23rd to commence FM broadcast.  Having raised $10,000 in a fundraising challenge, GMCR has now received a $10,000 matching donation and has the resources on hand to erect its antenna on the tower it is leasing from.

But we’re not out of the woods yet and need to make final decisions on a choice of transmitter and additional equipment.

Having very few options for government or foundation grants for these kinds of capital funds, GMCR is nonetheless very gratified to have made this progress with almost exclusively local support.

And of course, once FM begins, there will be the challenge of maintaining a sufficient  operating budget.  However the prospects are still good given its revenue potential via underwriting and an increased member base as it continues to expand local content and provide more comprehensive service to the community.
