10th Annual Gila River Festival:
Celebrating America’s First Wilderness River

This 10th annual festival coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the Federal Wilderness Act and the 90th Anniversary of the designation of the Gila Wilderness – the culmination of many years of work by naturalist Aldo Leopold resulting in the world’s first large protected wilderness area.

The festival takes place at multiple locations in Silver City, on the WNMU campus, along the Gila River and in the Gila Wilderness and Gila National Forest.  Complete festival information, event descriptions, schedule, registration and contact info is posted at
Gila Conservation Coalition (http://www NULL.gilaconservation NULL.org/wp/?page_id=1004).
